Product
Application/Background
Cortisol is a steroid hormone that is secreted in the blood, urine, and saliva. It is important to detect levels of cortisol in the body because it helps to regulate blood pressure and the body’s use of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Levels of cortisol increase when there is either physical or mental stress on the body to provide extra energy for the brain (1). The analysis of hormones in biological fluids is a powerful tool in the assessment of a patient’s endocrine function, since it allows multiple non-invasive samples to be taken and assayed over a short period of time. When combined with cortisol antibody, the Aquamax-Cortisol conjugate is a very effective tool for detecting cortisol concentrations in fluids. The assay developed with the Aquamax-Cortisol conjugate yield the detection limits necessary for measuring low levels of cortisol (2).
In a solid-phase competitive assay using saliva, a detection limit of 3 nmol/L and a linear dynamic range of 10-1000 nmol/L was achieved (2).
